Born in Niigata in 1893 Yoshihei Miya came to Tokyo to study at the age of 18 years old. When his work was presented in the Ministry of Culture’s acclaimed exhibition, there is a famed story that he made such an impression on one of the judges, Ogai Mori that he became a character in on e of Ogai’s books “Tencho”. In 1923 he moved to Nagano to pursue a career as an art teacher and continued to create great work up until the end of his term there at 65 years of age. This exhibition provides a presentation of oil paintings, sketches, prints and drawings in a key retrospective of his work.
