Gardar Eide Einarsson
Gardar Eide Einarsson was born in Norway in 1976 and is based in New York and Tokyo. Working across a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, collage, photography and installation Einarsson pays particular attention to the power relations in contemporary society, politics and economics, in which there is no simple line of power and resistance.
In this exhibition he presents a collection of work ranging from his fluorescent pink series to his monochrome painting, pointing to new potentials in his artistic practice. He also presents his steel sculpture referencing the exercise equipment to be found in solitary confinement cells in US prisons, as well as a body of silk screen work based on postage stamps. These works contain within them a commentary upon the conflicts of power in the post 9.11 surveillance society, while the very title is borrowed by the proclamation of the anarchist who appears in the 1965 film Doctor Zhivago, with keen references to the myth and history of the “outlaw”.
