Finished

Artists

Kotaro Takamura et al.
Critic, poet, and artist Kotaro Takamura(1883-1956)trained as a wood sculptor under his father, the Edo and Meiji era master, Kouun Takamura. Although many of the younger Takamura’s sculptures were destroyed in air raids during WWII and evacuations and other wartime events interrupted his work, Takamura’s sculptures are held up as representatives of modern Japanese art. In commemoration of the 130th anniversary of Takamura’s birth, this exhibition presents his remaining wood sculptures, as well as works by influences such as Rodin, pieces by his contemporaries, and drawings and paintings by his wife Chieko.
