2013 Press Photography Exhibition

Newspark - The Japan Newspaper Museum
Finished
This exhibition introduces 250 news photographs taken in 2013 by photojournalists from the 34 newspapers, agencies, and broadcasters of the Tokyo Press Photographers Association. Taking the association’s top prize this year was a photo titled “Let’s Show Japan’s Strength” by Yomiuri reporter Munehisa Shigeta. It shows train station staff and passengers banding together to save a woman trapped between a train and the platform of JR Minami Urawa Station. Award-winning photographs for the biggest stories of 2013 in the categories of general interest, business, sports, and arts and culture are also on display. These photographs document news including the deaths of Japanese and foreign hostages in the Algerian terrorist incident, the selection of Tokyo as the host of the 2020 Olympics, the registration of Mt. Fuji as a World Heritage Site, and Rakuten’s championship victory in professional baseball. Grand-prix winners from regional press associations outside of Tokyo are also exhibited.
