Japan is blessed to be the world’s “only one” and “number one” in a variety of aspects, from its rich yet harsh natural environment, to its traditions, technology, cuisine, and popular culture. It boasts a culture of “monozukuri” (manufacturing) technology that is elaborate, detailed, and exudes the spirit of Japanese hospitality.
Although some Japanese companies are facing financial difficulties, Japanese manufacturers are soaring higher and higher on the wings of innovation. In terms of manufacturing digital cameras, endoscopic instruments, and electronic parts, these companies command almost 100% of the world market share. In the fields of food and entertainment, Japan has continued to create unique products that attract attention all around the globe.
This exhibition first looks back on the roots of Japan’s technological culture handed down from generation to generation from ancient times. Visitors discover that the roots of innovative monozukuri, which include the “transmission of technology” and a “co-existence with nature,” can be found in a wide variety of technologies that support daily life. Japan’s monozukuri technology has been refined through a long history, leading to new technologies that create the future. Come experience a condensed history of more than one thousand years, from traditional technologies to the latest major projects of Japan’s innovators. Invited artisans and engineers will also take part in hands-on events and give talks during the exhibition.
