Momoyo Ijima
As part of the “New Perspectives” program Galerie Tokyo Humanité presents the work of Momoyo Ijima, in her second solo show at this gallery. Ijima completed a post-doctorate course at Joshibi University of Art and Design in 2011 and during her studies produced a range of work forming wax houses filled with clothes, crockery and other familiar materials. In more recent years she has created installations from old garments, potent with the memories of their previous owners, creating a strange atmosphere of nostalgia while suggesting a commentary on contemporary society and the position of women. In this exhibition she presents a new development of the 2011 work “Colorful Stars in the White Heavens”, filling the 13m wide space with buttons in a unique balance of tension and liberation.
