Featuring artists active through the period between 1883-1956 in an exhibition tracing the influence of Kotaro Takamura. The leading figure of modern Japanese sculpture, Kotaro Takamura, also established the first modern gallery in Japan in 1910 and in the same year his critical essay “Green Sun” had a wide impact on painters aspiring towards a new expression. This exhibition showcases works from artists such as Bernard Howell Leach, whom Takamura met while studying overseas, as well as the likes of Yoshitatsu Yanagihara who came to be an icon of post-war sculpture, along with various related documents.
