Yurihito Otsuki
Having lived close to 30 years in the sacred Spanish region of El Escorial, filled with a certain chaste, cosmic, magical energy, in the traditions stemming from the time of Felipe II in the 16th century, Yurihito Otsuki has come to flourish as a painter drawing upon an essence of Western culture, combined with his own unique sensibility. Gripped with a longing for El Escorial in his teenage years, while attracting the attention of poet Makoto Ohoka in his final year of high school, Otsuki has come to combine an instinctive poetic consciousness, with a formalism informed by his time in Spain, confronting the isolation of the self while joining in dialogue with the likes of Da Vinci and Velasquez, resulting in a world of romance, mystery and fantasy, inspired by Western mythology.
