Satoshi Hirose
Satoshi Hirose was born in Tokyo in 1963. After graduating from Tama Art University in 1989 and then completing a degree at Milan’s Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1997, he has come to base himself in Tokyo and Milan. He elaborates on this trans-cultural experience in his artistic visualizations, which use every-day materials to evoke sensations of transparency and floating. Major group exhibitions include ‘Lemon Project 03’ (1997, The Ginza Art Space, Tokyo), and ‘2001’ (2000, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art). Other solo exhibitions include last year’s ‘Mixed Bathing World 2012’, and this year a new show at Arts Maebashi, ‘Your Sky, My Sky: Sky Project for Arts Maebashi’ which is currently on display. Here he presents an exhibition on the theme of ‘Travel’. The title Cherubino is an Italian word for cherubim, an angel who freely moves between heaven and earth. Living in Milan for many years, as well as often traveling the world, Hirose has come to see the sky as something like a mirror reflecting the everyday, which can be looked up to from wherever one is. The exhibition comprises of the photographic works ‘Sky Series’ and ‘Night Series’, the latter of which will be shown for the first time. They will be exhibited together with sculptural works including ‘BLUE BOX’ in which a vision of the sky is seemingly crystallized, ‘Bean Cosmos’ which might be termed a microcosm of the universe, and the work ‘Pozzuo del Mondo’ made using black stone. In this exhibition, just asas in travelling, even the ‘everyday’ may be rediscovered as a new mode of being.
