The Life and Art of Yokoyama Taikan: His Mentor, Friends and Inspirations

Yokohama Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Taikan Yokoyama, Shiko Imamura, Misei Kosugi, Usen Ogawa, Keisen Tomita
This exhibition brings focus upon the new challenges to painting offered by Taikan Yokoyama in his choice of technique, coloring, composition, subject and interpretation, along with his association with a group of highly individual artist friends. While tracing the influence of Taikan’s friendship with Shiko Imamura, Misei Kosugi (Hoan), Usen Ogawa and Keisen Tomita, this exhibition reflects upon the development and maturing of his work. Here audiences may appreciate his signature works and observe the contrast between those produced under the direct influence of Tenshin Okakura and that produced under the association with his 4 close artist friends, whose work is also included in this show.

*This exhibition is divided into two parts – Part 1 5th October(Sat)-30th October(Wed), Part 2 1st November(Fri)-24th November(Sun)
