Heiner Binding
Heiner Binding explores what present-day painting is based on previous attempts throughout the history of the medium. He uses a distorted wooden frame. He uncovers the wooden frame. He paints from the back side of the canvas. He paints on an old wooden panel. He uses ready-made fabrics, sometimes his own worn-out shirts. These are all to verify the format of the painting itself.

Binding is careful to not take any particular fixed style as his own. He creates works in the lineage of impressionism, abstract expressionism, minimalism, and other schools. His world is comprised of the entirety of these rich, complex, and intimate paintings.
