Bringing earth to Shibuya, bringing the forests of Mashiko. From the “new moon”, symbol of a fresh start to the quiet completeness of the “full moon”. From 16th -30th September 2012 the second volume of the “Earth Art Festival – Hijisai” was held in Mashiko, Tochigi prefecture. With the backdrop of the Yamizo mountain, Mashiko is a town which has fostered a history as a holy place for worshippers, while well known for its farming, pottery and local crafts, it is a place which draws people towards it with a creative production intimately woven into a way of living rooted in the landscape. This exhibition presents the forests, earth, ceremonies and people of this local area and the unique perspectives distilled in the Earth Festival.
