Yukiko Shimono “Infinite Painting”

Guardian Garden
Finished

Artists

Yukiko Shimono
The work of Shimono questions the very materiality of painting, by producing images with computer technology, removed from the physicality of painting materials, and if unprinted remain suspended in a condition removed from the physical world. In the digital realm of vectors, where there is not limit to the size of production, Shimono confronts the very meaning of drawing from its essential foundations. Removing images of people and things, the symbols of memory to the best of her ability she takes up the freedom of drawing through the line and grapples with the very “lightness” in value and mass of this work. In her new work “Infinite Painting” she utilizes photo data as her material and through their color arrangement creates new painterly images from former depictions of her familiar environment.
