“Small Imari-yaki Exhibition - Small plates, Choko and Mukouzuke”

Toguri Museum of Art
Finished
It is oft said that the Japanese have a particular adoration for all that is small and charming and Imari-yaki ceramics are no exception to this rule, revealing how such a taste has continued through eras even from the Edo period. Since the development of the technique of thread cut shaping (Itokiri-seikei) in the 17th century a plethora of small bowls and dishes in all variety of shapes from leaves and flowers, to birds and fish, butterflies and even Mount Fuji came into popularity. This exhibition presents a collection of such historic works of art and further extends the appreciation for feats of craftsmanship on a minute scale.
