Muneteru Ujino
With new work from his Love Arm series, Nippon Series and Machine Theater Series along with the latest developments in his research into material culture Ujino presents an impressive show which captures the senses. The sound sculpture “Love Arm” series constructs armatures from car parts, lighting systems, automatic drills and motorcycles in a symbol of male sexuality which is seen to emerge in the era of mass consumerism. The Nippon Series forms sculptures out of objects decorated with strange katakana English, comically pointing towards a certain discomfort felt as concepts which can not easily be expressed in Japanese are made to fit the Japanese environment. While in Machine Theater clothes hung from the ceiling appear to dance as wipers inside them swish back and forth in a robotic movement which takes on increasingly human likeness. This is an anticipated exhibition of sound, light and machine.
