The exhibition presents works by Japanese painter and printmaker Leonard Foujita (1886-1968) collected by the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum over the years. Drawn mainly from the 18 years Foujita lived and rose to fame in Paris with his paintings of beautiful women and cats, the TFAM collection of 50 of Foujita’s works includes illustrations and cover art for French books and magazines, as well as a priceless luxury book featuring his original, limited-run woodblock prints. The exhibition also displays some 20 other works by Foujita’s School of Paris (École de Paris) contemporaries, including oil paintings and lithographs by École de Paris masters Modigliani, Chagall and Laurencin, among others.
