Hans Wegner
Hans Wegner (1914-2007), a leading furniture designer of Denmark. In his life time it is said that he designed over 500 chairs, including the famed “Y chair” and “chair inside a chair” and the “Round Chair” (also known as “The Chair”), producing hundreds of timeless designs. In this exhibition the leading researcher of Scandinavian design Makoto Shimazaki, who was great friends with Wegner, along with the chair researcher Noritsugu Oda present a selection of 60 of Wegner’s chairs, based on principles of “ use”, “look” and “buy”. In addition to editions which continue to be produced to this day, the exhibition also includes highly valuable examples of chairs which were never put on the market along with miniature productions and related documents. This is a chance to look feel and actually sit in these famed designs, seeking out the roots of Wegner’s work and its central concern with “living”.
