This event has ended.

The Tokugawa Memorial Foundation presents an image of the rooms and the belongings of the wives and mothers of noblemen at the end of the Edo era. These personal effects demonstrate the customs of women from Imperial, noble, and samurai families, with particular attention paid to the interiors of Edo Castle’s inner citadel where these women gathered, creating a realistic portrait of their lives. The exhibition also offers a look at men during this period, including the caretakers of the inner court, examining how the lively world of the castle’s inner quarters was administered. The women’s roles in continuing the Tokugawa household during the Meiji Revolution are also considered.
