This event has ended.

Although well known for his work in Kimono patterning Kaichi Kobayashi (1896-1968) was highly active in his 30’s in the production of picture postcards and envelopes published by the Sakuraiya company in Kyoto. With motifs of melancholy women, roses, lily of the valley, crosses, gondolas and cards, he fused elegant patterns fused with traditional methods of wood block print to create charming postcards which enchanted women travelers to Kyoto. In 2008 while an earlier solo exhibition of his work was being presented at this museum, Kobayashi’s surviving son was discovered, leading to further revelations of unseen work, which are presented here with the cooperation of his son and the Ikaho Hoshina Art Museum.
