Artists

Yumeji Takehisa
The bijinga of Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934) are filled with grace and sentimentality, and til this day continue to capture many with their charm. In these works we may glimpse not only the outer appearance of the women depicted but also their inner hearts, revealing something of the age. For Takehisa the presence of the women who posed as models for these works was of particular significance. Amongst these women were lovers who had a lasting influence on his life and ideas. This exhibition provides a close up on Takehisa's models and their romantic and philosophical connection to the great artist.
