This event has ended.

Shunsuke Imai explores a sense of the three-dimensional which comes to arise in the flat surfaces of paintings. The warps and twists revealed on the flat plane using a system of stripes and dots convey a sense of three-dimensional space which may be liken to the fluttering of flags. His work in this exhibition includes a sculpture made of stripes in random arrangements transcribed and dyed onto cloth, as well as large-scale paintings made using the same patterns. Through the juxtaposition of 2D and 3D forms the viewer is encouraged to perceive the spatial dimensions revealed within the flat form of painting.
