“Kamo Traditional Wood Japan”

Living Design Center Ozone
Finished
With its traditional features and rich natural environment Kamo City, Niigata prefecture, is known as the “Little Kyoto of Hokuetsu” as well as being renowned for its primary production of paulownia chests. This exhibition takes the traditional skills of draw making and applies them to the contemporary day, attempting to link the charm of this historic craft to the future. Centered around the Kamo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, creators and designers have come together to produce a new style of Japanese style, continuing to produce the designs of Eiri Iwakura while also encouraging approaches to new forms. Based upon these skills and with the direction of designers and imagination of the creators a new series of works have been developed in a workshop style program which visitors are welcomed to appreciate here.
