Jeremy Dickinson
Born in the U.K. in 1963, Jeremy Dickinson graduated from Goldsmith’s College in 1986 and continues to live and work in London. He has held solo exhibitions across Europe and the U.S., and this marks his fifth exhibition at Tomio Koyama Gallery. His work focuses upon the motif of miniature automobiles that he has collected since he was a child, with arrays of model cars, trucks, trains, and buses, summoning recollections from our own childhood. In the precise depiction of these toys, capturing the very detail of the landscape and sunlight reflected in a window, the surfaces of scratches and peeling paint, we may catch a sense of the time and affection which they have received, while the uniformly plain backgrounds not only serve to illuminate the colors of the cars but also to trigger viewers’ imaginations.
