Artists

Aimitsu, Chozo Naito, Masao Tsuruoka, Masaaki Terada
In commemoration of its 30th anniversary, the Nerima Art Museum presents four exhibitions of artwork from its collection. Containing some 2,400 pieces, the collection focuses on contemporary Japanese artists. The “Eras and Art” series lets visitors go beyond simply viewing artists and their works to understanding them in the contexts of their time periods.

The first exhibition presents 50 works created from 1930 through the mid-1950s. It concentrates on pieces by Aimitsu, while also featuring the art of Chozo Naito, Seiji Choukai, Masaaki Terada, and Masao Tsuruoka. The exhibition’s scope spans the quarter of a century up until 1956, said to be the year when the post-war period ended. Tracing Japan’s expansion and contraction in territory, upheaval in ideology, and changes in lifestyle, it offers a glimpse of the era.
