Artists

Ushio Shinohara, Noriko Shinohara
Familiarly known as “Gyu-chan” and renowned for his “Boxing Painting”, Ushio Shinohara has made a name for himself with his spirit of defiance, which still lives on today, despite his more than 80 years. Described by Taro Okamoto as the embodiment of “Single Minded Excess”, Shinohara continues to charge on with full strength in his thirst for creation. By his side for 40 years has been his wife, Noriko, who gave up her art studies in New York after falling in love with and marrying Ushio, going on to become, wife, mother and assistant until she finally came to find her own expression, documenting their chaotic life through drawings of herself as the heroine “Cutie”.
And then came their joint exhibition…
Love, sacrifice, joy, pain, passion, despair, ageing, and art!
In an eternal battle between these poles, the dramatic life of a single couple is captured here in an exclusive documentary film.
