Takako Watanabe Exhibition

This event has ended.

Watanabe gives form to her clay by hand and through the use of glazing further heightens the sense of texture. Hand molding is an ancient technique used since the Jomon period, but this process of bringing form to the earth as sensed directly by the hand is perhaps a reflection of the very process in which the earth gives rise to life. Watanabe here opens up a world of spirits, not only of people, but also animals, plants, water and wind, along with vessels and vases, utilizing an original glazing technique in which lines and lattices seem to emerge naturally from the material itself.
