Toshie Okada “He Remembers His Face As Soon As He Wakes”

Gallery T / Toho Beads Style
Finished

Artists

Toshie Okada
Referencing the cult of personality as seen in the $300 million celebrations marking the birth date of Mao Tse-tung, Toshie Okada imagines the lives of those placed in special positions in society and creates new fictions around them. In this exhibition Okada selects a number of stars of yesteryear and esteemed persons and through video, text, photographs and everyday objects retells their stories through the new lens of imagination, commenting with humor and irony upon our own struggles with self and identity and our attempt to escape these through the lives of celebrities.
