Alain Laboile
Alain Laboile was born in Bordeaux, France in 1968. Working for a time in plaster statues of people, an interest in insects later prompted him to create iron insect sculptures. In 2004 he suddenly switched to nature photography, and his oeuvre has included insect pictures. The works here focus on Laboile’s six children, capturing their innocence and daily lives surrounded by nature and the family cat. These exciting photos brim with affection and occasionally humor, while their unique angles and surprising senses of timing and set them apart from typical family snapshots. A student of Jock Sturges, Laboile printed these photos at Sturge’s studio in Seattle. The artist will be at the gallery on 8/2 (Fri), 8/3 (Sat), and 8/4 (Sun).
