Artists

Christian Bonnefoi
Christian Bonnefoi tackles the physical surfaces of painting, and while using transparent materials comes to transform painting into independent objects drawing upon the deconstruction and reconstruction of the support as seen in the late 1960s French art movement “Support/ Surface”, while also framed within the context of minimalism to form stoic work which questions traditions of painting while simultaneously pursuing the physical and philosophical.
In his first solo show in Japan Christian Bonnefoi presents a mini retrospective, introducing some of his most defining works. From the repeatedly developed “Babel”, “Eureka” and “Back” to recent new work “Ludo et Composition du Zodiaque au-dessus de Ginza”, this exhibition features a range of paintings set within a specially designed space designed by young architect Hideyuki Nakayama, softly reconstructing the venue to open up a new appeal to the work .
