Tatjana Doll
Having held the solo exhibitions “Camp” at the Museum Junge Kunst in Frankfurt (2010), and “Toxic Chemicals” at Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen (2010), as well as exhibiting widely internationally in events such as “Contemporary German Painting” at Museu de Arte de São Paulo in Brazil (2011), the German artist Tatjana Doll (b.1970 Burgsteinfurt) presents her second solo exhibition in Japan at Nanzuka where she will be presenting an array of crystalline paintings, depicting scenes we faintly recall from somewhere and images we implicitly know, often citing classic movies such as The Wizard of Oz, the Forbidden Plant and Dracula.
Doll’s technique of painting utilizes a variety of different paints including enamel, acrylic, and oil, applied in layers one upon the other and in so doing abstracting the original image in an archaeology of human feats and numerous veils of the truth, while reflecting an approach which is more impulsive and free than logically calculated, based on an interest in the artistic expression innate within us all.
