Jaq Chartier
Looking upon the work of Jaq Chartier we met with an agitation which is not to be laid to rest by our eye. While her work is flat, it holds a soft depth to it, and its colors are of an unfamiliar pallet, disturbing out sense of visual expectation. Chartier’s work is of thickness and substance to be penetrated, with layers of resin gel making up its surface, her paintings are transmigrations of chemicals and dyes seeping through their resting place and observing chemical reactions of oxidization in a form of scientific experiment. Through a large array of color formulas Chartier calls upon the processes of nature in their transformation, permeating the support to form a sense of perspective, combining selective decisions with the uncontrollable power of nature, giving rise to primitive memory of the eye in a play of aesthetics and recollection.
