At a single glance the work of Uemura seems to have a touch of an early manga artist, but this is not a mere imitation of technique but rather more the faint memory accumulated in the artist through a process of filtration through numerous layers of consumed images. The weave and contrast of lingering girls, realist landscapes, and inserted text plays upon the viewer’s memory and stokes up a multi-faceted story. Here Uemura presents the ongoing “Alternative Nippori” series for the first time in Nippori.
