Artists

Max Huber, Aoi Huber
This is the first joint exhibition in Japan for Max Huber, a Swiss designer, and his wife, Aoi Huber Kawano, an illustrator and picture book artist active in southern Switzerland for more than 50 years. On display are Max’s geometric compositions and typographic works made during his involvement in the gutai art movement in the 1940s and new illustrations by Aoi featuring richly colorful lines and shapes exploring themes of the abstract and concrete. Interweaving the aesthetics of both artists, this show introduces their worlds of graphic works. 2014 marks the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland, and these works, which have never been shown in Japan before, present an opportunity to see both countries in fuller color.
