Positioned on the North West coast of France, Normandy is renowned as a scenic coastal district. With the development of the railroad in the late 19th century, Normandy became infused with the air of Paris while at the same time building a name for itself as a resort destination. Just before this transformation, in the first half of 19th century the area was a gathering place for modern landscape painters attempting to capture the beauty of this coastline upon their canvas. With the support of The Musée Malraux here a selection of modern Norman treasures are offered up to visitors in the form of oil paintings, drawings, prints and photographs, revealing the important role of Normandy in the developments of modern landscape painting.
