Narita Airport’s Discovery Museum presents its 14th exhibition, “From the Eisei-Bunko Museum Collection: The Hosokawa Artists” from Jun. 21 (Sat), 2014. During the Edo period, daimyos commissioned artists to create many artworks for year-round events and meetings held at ceremonial venues, as well as the daimyos’ own private viewings. This exhibition introduces works in a variety of genres by artists who served the Hosokawa daimyo family, including Yoshishige Yano’s “Folding Screen with Design of the Battle at Uji River” and Naoyuki Sugitani’s “Illustration of Climbing Mt. Fuji”. These works give viewers a taste of the wonders of early-modern painting.
