Original Works from the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava— World Travel With Picture Books

Established in 1967 as a UNESCO initiative, the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava is one of the most prestigious international event for children’s book illustrators. In 2013, the 24th BIB drew 2,344 submissions by 362 artists in 49 countries, making it currently the largest picture book contest in the world. Works are judged for their artistry, experimentalism, and uniqueness. This year, two Japanese artists received the “Golden Apple” Semi-Grand Prix Prize, attracting much attention. This exhibition introduces selected works by Japanese artists and judge-selected winners, including Grand Prix recipients.
