F/T14 “The Rite of Spring”

Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre
Finished

Artists

Momoko Shiraga, Yuko Mohri, Yasuno Miyauchi
Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” is one of the most famous works of twentieth-century music and was originally staged with choreography by Vaslay Nijinsky for the Ballets Russes. It has since been reinterpreted by the likes of Pina Bausch and Maurice Béjart. Now three young Japanese artists in the fields of dance, art and music bring their creative talents together for a radical new revision of the work. Momoko Shiraga is known for her unique blend of humor and movement. Yuko Mohri utilizes junk and everyday objects to make elaborate spaces. Yasuno Miyauchi composes raw music interweaving organic sounds of human breathing and voices. Their “The Rite of Spring” is a contemporary take on the themes of primitive rites and sacrifice through a Tokyo context of rebirth.
