Kazuhiro Ito
Bronze sculptures are generally cast from beeswax molds. Kazuhiro Ito, however, says he feels “a sense of distance from the original shape” when shifting between materials, choosing instead to create works with his unique method of sculpting lumps of bronze. After gaining a greater understanding of bronze sculpting, he has returned to the practice of lost-wax casting. He now feels that beeswax is a suitable material for representing feelings of sentimentality. Continuing to confront the eternal question “What is sculpture”, Ito has spent the past 20 years studying bronze and quietly expanding his range of artist expression.
