Mana Konishi
Bridging the gap between reality and imagination the work of Mana Konishi appears in solid photo realism yet the scenes she depicts do not in fact exist, or if they do they are to be found rather in the artist’s mind or in a narrow space between reality. With settings rooted in the real world they deny full fantasy, but as she reconstructs images first captured in photographs she comes to distort them and open a path to another world.
The collection of work featured in this exhibition focuses upon her landscape series set within scenes of the everyday, drawing out a parallel universe in an extension to our own, as nature is captured with an engulfment of light, color and memory and we are lead through this familiar yet unknown land by the character of her son, through whose eyes a man-made lake becomes a bottomless pool and a common park becomes an endless forest.
