This event has ended.

These new paintings by Kanako Oya deal with themes of memory and record. Oya observes, “I feel that memory, which lives within connections between all kinds of things, it is very ambiguous and uncertain despite being inseparable from life. We may use records in place of memory, but this often leads to confusing memory and reality, which gives me an inescapable sense of unease.” Oya paints as a way of tying vague memories to realities she can touch, “if only for a moment.” These works turn “memories” of scenes viewed or perceptions felt in the past into new images.
