Shun Kawakami
Pursuing a beauty that melds a return to Japan’s special and refined aesthetic principles with a contemporary graphic design approach, Shun Kawakami uses special paper and printing using traditional methods in creating works that seem to shake perceptions of space, temperature, atmosphere, and time in their margins. His Japanese paper includes gold and silver leaf produced by Kanazawa artisans and paper made from pine, paulownia, and thinned-forest wood. In addition to this special paper, Kawakami also incorporates other natural materials that display elements of beauty as they wither and fade, seeking “one-of-a-kind expressions in printing.” Along with original works of art, this exhibition displays and sells art books and posters featured at exhibitions at the Louvre Palace and France’s Musée des Art Décoratifs.
