Artists

Jean Fautrier
Jean Fautrier (1898–1964) was a major 20th century French artist. The harshly warped abstract figures of his “Hostages” series painted during WWII posit Fautrier as a testifier within the 20th century art world who condemned human violence. The first posthumous retrospective of Fautrier’s work in Japan gives an extensive introduction to the power of his art with approximately 90 pieces including sculptures and prints. Fautrier bears witness to an age with this complete picture of the enormous mark he left on 20th century art.
