Alexander Tinei
Tinei was born in Moldova in 1967, graduated from Chisinau Repin College of Fine Art in 1991. He recently exhibited at Saatchi Gallery (England), Museum Rudolfinum (Czech Republic), Frissiras Museum (Greece), Erika Deak Gallery (Hungary), Galerie EIGEN+ART (Germany), Ana Cristea Gallery (USA), and Galerie Dukan (France). Tinei is known for his portraits of young subjects with tattoo-like blue lines on their bodies. The figures depicted in his works are derived from magazines or social networks on the internet. He separates the figures from their original world and creates a new story by placing them into a world between reality and fiction.
In Moldova, the country he grew up, people spoke Russian and accepted Russian heroes at the time their country became part of the Soviet Union. They have been forced to accept the imposition of another culture since that time. Looking back today, Tinei feels that Moldovan people unquestionably accepted the unreasonable demands. The faceless people depicted frequently on his canvases are reminiscent of the historical evidence. When Tinei tells about social crisis, he uses an allegorical fairy tale. Birds and people are drawn together in his new works, and “Blue bird”, the title of this exhibition is a symbolism of happiness. It makes the viewer think deeply what the birds in his works signify.
