Katsuko Ishigaki
Katsuko Ishigaki, a native of Okinawa’s Ishigaki City, examines the relationship between society and the arts in her works. Having grown up in Okinawa, which has faced the issue of relocating the U.S. military base for more than 40 years, Ishigaki searches for the peace among people that becomes all-too-easy to lose sight of. In addition to her oil paintings, this exhibition of mainly new works presents collages made from phone and utility bills and other scraps of everyday life. These are powerful works from a land of abundant nature and cascading sunlight.
