Vallotton — Fire Beneath the Ice

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Felix Vallotton
Sixty oil paintings and sixty print works make up this exhibition celebrating the museum’s comprehensive collection of Felix Vallotton’s work which continues a contemporary sensibility even 100 years on, uneasy landscapes, unstable interiors and cool eroticism presenting us with a puzzle of layers and emotions which is not to be easily solved. This show features the close relationship between a man and woman as depicted in “Intimité”, the shadow filled “Musical Instruments”, the objective descriptions of conflict “This is War” and a series tracing the mountain ranges of the Alps.
