Fuyuka Shindo “What To Do About Patterns?”

Artists

Fuyuka Shindo
Fuyuka Shindo’s textiles and installations use kimono scraps, threads, and fish skins as materials in a creative process that incorporates local traditions, culture, and present-day complexities. Often drawing on the landscapes, traditional materials, and artistic methods of her native Hokkaido, she speaks with the residents of the places where she creates her works as part of her research, collecting fabrics, tools, vocabulary, and know-how along the way. In addition to a series inspired by a search for the roots of Jomon culture in Hokkaido, this exhibition displays works made from the skins of fish caught by Shindo herself in Tokyo’s Tama River.
