As the the Bridgestone Museum of Art prepares to close its doors for renovation from May 18 of 2015, to reopen several years later, the museum presents its final exhibition for this period with a selection of 160 works the “Best of the Best” from the Ishibashi Foundation Collection. The distinctive feature of the collection is its systematic focus on modern and contemporary Western art, particularly that of France, from the 19 century on, beginning with Impressionism, the Post-Impressionist movement, Fauvism of the early 20th century, followed by Cubism and Abstraction. The collection also includes Western-style paintings produced by Japanese artists, together with abstract art from the postwar period. This is a unique chance to encounter the definitive collection of the Bridgestone Museum of Art.
