Just as the title suggests in this exhibition Ukawa through the “spiritualist” devices of his work, calls upon a presence which should not be there and attempts to bring it to some form, raising renowned figures from their eternal slumbers in an act which transcends the dialectics of original and copy, real and fake with a forcible presence. “Ukawa’s Tags Factory / 1000 Counterfeit Auograph!!!!!!!! – 1000 Fake Celebrity Signatures Collected by Naohiro Ukawa” features the work “Ukawa’s Tags Factory” presented in Tokyo and Osaka in 2009, along with an additional 500 signatures spread across the exhibition space. And as signatures of celebrities from various eras and fields are recreated by Ukawa they come to call into question our very means of valuing the world. He also presents again the installation which caused a stir at “Free Dommune Zero” in August 2012, with the replication of Natsume Soseki through moving image, stoking a reexamination of Soseki’s fundamental philosophy of “Reality and Being”.
