Ine Izumi
From the early stage of her career, Ine Izumi has retained a keen interest in “reading the given space” and has tried to present her interpretations not only on canvas but also via different media including performance. Following her solo show at taimatz in 2012, Izumi has been challenging herself to paint with the effects of light instead of the brush. Inspired by the acts of light, she tries to make drawings directly onto walls, aiming to embody the dialogue between her representation and the light as “the intention of the others”. Izumi’s body of work, which was once referred to as “the subtle deal between the space and the artist” while she was known as Yasuko Imaizumi, is now developing in more minimalistic and intriguing ways.
