Visual Deception II Into the Future

Bunkamura Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Kazu Oshiro, Shigeo Fukuda, Vik Muniz et al.
The genre of “Trompe l’oeil,” with its devices that play tricks upon the viewer’s eye, is a well-established form in art history. As a sequel to the Visual Deception: Trick Art Exhibition held in 2009, which broadly traced the history of the genre, this latest exhibition focuses on the evolution of the techniques of illusion in modern art as it branches out into many different streams. Divided across 5 sections of “trompe-l’oeil,” “shadows,” “op illusions,” “anamorphosis” and “metamorphosis” this exhibition features works of visual stimulation and high artistic achievement, highlighting new approaches to modern “Trompe l’oeil” alongside the historic approaches of established masters.
